I am scheduled for the hysterectomy in July. I am already depressed. And I don’t feel a woman any more. I can’t understand how someone even think about having sex after such surgery. You are not whole any more! And are we even women after it??

You should get some help, and I mean that seriously. Having a hysterectomy doesn't make you less of a woman. The depression will be worse if you don't get help soon.

Great informative video. Wife had hysterectomy at like 35 and kept one ovary (i think) maybe both I am afraid to ask. But been married 20+ years and her libido basically stopped abruptly. Years after the surgery. And I’ve done more research on it than her I told her it’s gotta be your hormones. And I went through the lack of sex no libido nightmare episode of exactly how you said. If not me than with who and it truly is very very hard to believe. And it puts much not necessary stress on marriage. Of me always being suspicious and let’s just say your imagination goes to dark places. Without intimacy or anything. But she would get defensive about the hormones suggestion then she finally asked and she has some topical cream estradiol possibly I’m not 100% positive on the name. But hot flashes have died down but maybe a little better on intimacy but not much. I’m thinking. She needs a bit of testosterone also. But I’ve been told to worry about my own health and not hers. Sorry venting a bit.

It really seems to depend on why the hysterectomy needs to be done. I had a total hysterectomy (uterus, cervix, tubes) because of severe adenomyosis and endometriosis when I was 30 years old and it was the best decision ever. I've been in bed half of the month, unable to do anything, needed narcotics to survive the pain, sex was so painful I was throwing up or passing out many times. I'm also very happy not to be able to have uterine orgasms anymore because they were extremely painful and the pain stayed for hours afterwards. I can now just have sex (with a bit of discomfort sometimes) and enjoy beautiful clitoral orgasms without worrying. I can finally live, work and do everything I want after 19 years of excruciating pain. I honestly wish I'd done it sooner but nobody wanted to do to surgery because I'm so young. I'm also looking forward to adopt and be a mom which would have been impossible because of how disabled I was before the hysterectomy.

Now, after 5 years, I still don't have sex. However, I was so traumatized I just finished ONE YEAR of trauma therapy. I was told I went through medical menopause and documented my PTSD. I had no idea about what it means to go through menopause. I never even had hot flashes after my periods stopped. I miss my hormones, uterus and cervix. I also found out the importance of Iodine. Found out I had a very low level. With low Iodine breast and ovarian cysts can develop. I previously had a breast cyst the 10 years later an ovarian cyst developed. Was told I needed a hysterectomy. I didn't have cancer or needed that hysterectomy, My body needed Iodine.

My surgery was 3 months and a half ago. I had my family around until recently and now I'm finally completely on my own. I can't stop crying and being depressed. I didn't think that a hysterectomy could have major psychological effects; I don't think that it was discussed with my doctor either.

My pathology did show only 2 small polyps but they could have been removed by a hysteroscopy not a hysterectomy. Not even my mother whos 59 years old has done this terribly surgery 😢. Hello Dr Bonn, I'm 50 yrs of age and in perimenopause. I have a 5cm cyst on one ovary and a 3 cm cyst on the other ovary. I have a few fibroids on my uterus and endometriosis. I'm not in any pain except perimenopause symptoms, occasional night sweat, occasional irritable legs. However I've been told I need a laparoscopic bilateral salpingo oophorectomy. However I'm terrified of clinical menopause as I've been told due to my endometriosis I cannot take estrogen supplements after surgery as it will make my endometriosis worse after ablation. My ca125 was 40 but said it was because of my endometriosis and not cancerous. Am I wrong in thinking in the next 2 years my periods will probably stop anyway. If my endometriosis is not causing pain and my only symptom is needing to urinate a bit more than usual perimenopause symptoms, is it necessary to go through a bso and clinical menopause with all the major symptoms what's to come instead of just getting private scans every 6 mths, make sure the cysts are ok and not turned cancerous and go into menopause naturally?. I would so appreciate your advise as I'm in such a panic. Sorry I know your busy 🥺

@@mjf3570 I cannot thankyou enough for advising me to look into iodine. I never knew the benefits and how important it is 🙏. I'm have ordered some iodine supplements ready to take after I contact my Gp and tell them I need to be tested ASAP. I've spoken to my family and mentioned I don't want a Bso and I would rather once tested, take my iodine supplements, magnesium, vit D, Calcium and omega 3 supplements, then every 6 mths get private scans to make sure there's no cancer forming from the benign cysts on my ovaries. Then in a couple of years when I'm in natural menopause, after a further year of no periods... if I have alot of pain I can then consider surgery. Does this sound a better option that a Bso now when I'm still in perimenopause at 50 with no irritable symptoms that affect my daily life? Honestly cannot thank you enough for yoir advise. The relief I have from my petrified thoughts of this surgery have lessened dramatically. Now I just have to convince my consultant/surgeon , of my decision 🙏 xxxxx

@@Nicolina1111 I'm no Dr but have read multiple studies showing the need for K2 with calcium. Lots of research on YT too. My wife's oncologist and gynos all say CA125 alone is not determinative, many factors play into it. Cancer often doesn't cause symptoms until later. It's awful and worth avoiding at all costs imho. My wife did watchful waiting and tests which lasted 10 months. Now she needs BSO, she's told, due to breast cancer. My wife's 53 and otherwise perfect health and menopause is around the corner anyway which takes her off Tamoxifen and onto Anastrozole aromatase inhibitor. Good luck on your decision!
